Tyrod Taylor needs to minimize the amount of sacks he takes

The Buffalo Bills’ record sits at 3-2 and the team can thank its defense and field goal units for that. The offense and its quarterback, by contrast, have been under fire going into the bye week.   The quarterback being under heat is nothing new for Taylor. He is used to being critiqued on a weekly basis. This season is a little different, however, because he hasn’t been able to lean on LeSean McCoy and the running game. At times

Filmroom Breakdown: Week 5

It’s been a difficult 17 years, hasn’t it? In that span of misfortune, I don’t think I can remember a player as highly scrutinized as Tyrod Taylor. The only player I can think of as close is Ryan Fitzpatrick after he inked that ridiculous 6-year $59 million deal in 2011. Truthfully, I’m not old enough to remember the ins and outs of the 1999 season or the Doug Flutie/Rob Johnson thing, so Taylor takes the (my) cake. I already offered

Running Game Failures

Well, the Buffalo Bills have reached the bye week and, in Bills fashion, this season has had its ups and downs. But going into their football-less Sunday 3-2 probably wasn’t expected. I’ll say it: as of right now, they have overachieved, thanks to a stingy defense that leads the league in scoring, only allowing 14.8 points/game. The Offense Can’t Afford to Miss Opportunities

During their game against the Bengals, the Buffalo Bills’ offense squandered several opportunities to really seize control of the game, even though the defense created several turnovers, thereby creating opportunities for Tyrod Taylor and company.   But the offense struggled. The Bengals’ defense is no slouch; they are a top-five unit. The Bengals held an otherwise efficient red zone offense in the Bills to 1/3 for the day.   But on this play, the defense didn’t stop the Bills. Rather, quarterback

The Bills Offensive Line Got Back to What They Do Well

LeSean McCoy and the Buffalo Bills’ offense currently rank 17th in rushing going into week five, a long way from their number one spot the last two years. The offensive line has had their growing pains in Rick Dennison‘s zone blocking scheme, but the staff picked the perfect week to bust out some old school concepts.   These concepts are ones that the personnel up front are familiar with. To neutralize the Falcons’ fast flowing defense, Dennison and the staff

Filmroom Breakdown: Week 4

It was another week and another upset victory for the Bills when they beat arguably the best team in the NFL on the road to follow up a huge victory at home against one of the league’s top defenses. It’s safe to say that the Bills have had a pretty remarkable start to their 2017 season. They’re a team that had very modest expectations going into mini-camp and, after the Sammy Watkins trade, those expectations plummeted to an all-drought low. Fast-forward

Buffalo Bills – Cincinnati Bengals Advance Scouting Report

The 3-1 Buffalo Bills are making a trip to Cincinnati this weekend to face off against the 1-3 Bengals. The Bills are three point underdogs in this one, suggesting that Vegas thinks the game would be even if they played at a neutral field. Are the Bengals better than their record, and how do they match up against Buffalo’s roster? Using the All-22 tape, I’ve scouted the key attributes of Cincinnati’s team. Bengals offense The Bengals’ offense had an abysmal start

Defend and Dictate

The Buffalo Bills concluded the first quarter of the NFL season with a tremendous 23-17 win on the road against the Atlanta Falcons. For someone who was expecting this team to struggle due to the roster turnover, I would consider their 3-1 record to be quite miraculous. Roster turnover notwithstanding, one thing the fans could hang their hat on was that, even though he was a rookie head coach, Sean McDermott managed to put together an experienced staff. McDermott’s staff

Cover 1 Film Room: Micah Hyde’s INT vs. Falcons

The Falcons believed they had the Bills defense on the ropes so they took a deep shot. It’s a very good play call, but the game speed and mental awareness of Hyde leads to a big interception. Why It Worked: Taylor to Clay vs. Broncos

Bills Quarterback Tyrod Taylor had one of his best games against the Denver Broncos defense in two years, and he did it without the aid of a run game. Running back LeSean McCoy finished the game with 14 attempts for 21 yards, but regardless of how effective the run game is, the play action off of it will be effective because of Taylor’s mobility. On Charles Clay’s second touchdown of the 2017 season he shows how critical a player he
