MOBILE, Ala. — Day 1 of Senior Bowl practice is for players to shake off any rust — especially those that did not play this season — and for coaches to familiarize themselves with their newly constructed roster. Missed steps, communication issues and frustrations are sure to be evident in the first day.
Though the quick turnaround and most likely a short night, players are expected to quickly digest what they learned on their first day in pads and apply it and showcase a better version of themselves on Day 2.
Some abide and follow suit, while others either remain constant or show regression.
From the trenches to the highlight reel playmakers, below are a few takeaways I had from today’s practice’s via Twitter.
Khalil Herbert | RB | #25 | Virginia Tech vs. Tuf Borland | LB | #32 | Ohio State
Khalil Herbert (VT-RB) showcasing some great pass blocking reps. He’s won every one so far.
Keeps position and let’s up little ground. 5-9 204 #SeniorBowl pic.twitter.com/YvhGkByBN0

Nico Collins | WR | #4 | Michigan vs. Benjamin St. Juste | CB | #25 | Minnesota
Nico Collins (Michigan-WR) isn’t ever really going to burn his matchup. However, he still finds ways to cradle the ball in.
Good tracking skills the past couple days. Positions his body well. #SeniorBowl pic.twitter.com/39jSh2cqR8

Cade Johnson | WR | #83 | South Dakota State vs. Darren Hall | DB | #23 | San Diego State

KJ Britt | LB | #33 | Auburn vs. Chris Evans | RB | #9 | Michigan
Everything in front of him, he is solid. But if you ask Britt to cover anything behind or man, it may be rough. #SeniorBowl pic.twitter.com/xgQ5UX7ixT
