Signature Stats: 14.6% Pressure Percentage (10th)

Contract Projection: OTC Valuation – $11.127M; PFF – $17.5M AAV; Spotrac – $17.5M AAV

Cover 1 Take: At just turning 26 years old, it’s hard to argue that he won’t cash in with something around a 2 year $35M deal ($17.5M AAV) after a season with 66 total pressures. Maybe his 5.5 sacks keeps it deflated a LITTLE and he ends up at 3 years $45M ($15M AAV). – Greg Tompsett

Summary: Chase Young remains an athletically gifted pass rusher with notable straight-line speed and the ability to leverage his long arms to disrupt opposing linemen. He methodically folds and works down the line on runs, utilizing his lateral agility and head-up alignment lateral explosiveness to stress offensive lines and compress the pocket. He initiates engagement with his long arm paired with a violent chop, displays torquing power to displace blockers in the run game, all which allow him to create major flashes of disruption.

However, Young’s play processing is substandard, and he has noticeably lost some burst and acceleration over the years. While he can win first touch and effectively keep linemen at arm’s length, his clunky stop-and-start ability and below-average agility hamper his effectiveness on stunts and in changing direction to bend and flatten to the QB. Additionally, although he can blow up inside run plays if given the opportunity, his overall impact is inconsistent vs the run. Augmenting his reaction time in the second stanza of a rush and decision-making will be crucial for him to unlock a more steady, game-changing presence on the field. But overall, he is a very good starting defensive end who creates chaos as a pass rusher.

Signature Trait: Speed to Power
