2020 Senior Bowl Roundup

The NFL season is almost done, with 30 of 32 teams already focusing on the offseason activities, especially the 2020 NFL Draft. A lot of talented young players will be joining the league in April, and some of them are competing this week in the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

Day one

2020 Senior Bowl Weight Ins and Measurements

The week started with player weigh-ins and measurements, and Christian Page did an amazing job putting it all together. Some guys impressed here, gaining a step on the competition:

South Squad Practice Recap

On the first day, Russell Brown focused all his attention on the South squad, bringing interviews and notes from its players. There are some notes about QBs Justin Herbert and Jalen Hurts, WRs Van Jefferson and Austin Mack, and DB Dane Jackson, who impressed in coverage.

North Squad Practice Recap

Christian Page focused on the North squad, pointing out how much more organized and productive the team’s practices were compared to the South team. North is coached by Matt Patricia and the Detroit Lions’ coaching staff.

Some of the North’s first-day standouts included Baylor WR Denzel Mims, Liberty WR Antonio Gandy-Golden and Oklahoma DT Neville Gallimore.

Wide Receiver Standouts

Brad Kelly observed the pass-catchers and shared his notes. Florida’s Van Jefferson’s route-running skills, Texas’ Collin Johnson’s development, and Ohio State’s K.J. Hill and Baylor’s Denzel Mims’ abilities to create separation were highlighted by our wide receiver specialist.

Media Day Interviews

Erik Turner was able to chat with some of the most talented young players in the country. He focused on high football IQ guys, who could verbalize what they do on the turf very well. Character and potential Bills’ fit were also considered by Erik, targeting some of the team’s positional needs.

Day Two

North Squad Practice Recap

After focusing on the South squad in his first day in Mobile, Russell Brown focused on the Matt Patricia’s North team. Patricia’s work again earned praise, and some guys, like UCLA RB Joshua Kelley and Utah pass rusher Bradlee Anae, earned some adulation.

C1 BUF Podcast: Day Two Take-Aways

Greg and Erik are back, offering their observations after the second day of practices. After focusing on WRs and DBs the first day, the trenches were the focus on day two.

Day Three

The final day of practice was moved inside due to inclement weather.

Without the rain to make things harder, the wide receiver group impressed again, led by Ohio State’s K.J. Hill. He showcased his playmaking ability, adapting well to poorly-placed passes.

Baylor receiver Denzel Mims also took advantage of his opportunities and should see his draft stock rise considerably with a good game over the weekend.

But it wasn’t just the receivers impressing. Even after receiving a late invite, Auburn CB Javaris Davis found a way to have a successful week. He consistently locked down receivers during the practices in difficult one-on-one situations.

Another guy who drew some attention was Dayton’s TE, Adam Trautman. He’s a big target with good mobility and nice hands.
