This morning at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine, some prospects were available to speak to the media, all of them being defensive linemen and linebackers. One player that was at the Senior Bowl and really increased his stock down in Mobile, AL was Auburn defensive end Derick Hall. Hall was available this morning, and I was able to speak to the young talent.
Hall finished the 2022 season with 43 tackles, eight sacks, 11 quarterback hits, and 28 quarterback hurries. Hall had a couple of two-sack games against Missouri and Mississippi State last season. During every game in the season, Hall exclusively lined up outside the tackle and tried to use a combination of speed and power to get to the quarterback.
According to SIS, Hall finished last season with two forced fumbles, a sack percentage of 2.1%, which was the highest on the team, and a pressure rate of 11%, which was also the best on the team. He rushed the passer 324 times and posted a .060 points saved per rush.
When Hall arrived at the podium, I asked him about the Senior Bowl and what the event held in Mobile means to him.
“The Senior Bowl was very very special for me,” Hall said. “I’m a kid who’s from Gulfport, Mississippi, not even an hour away from there who has grown up and watched that game a lot. Watched a lot of great guys come through there so the opportunity to be there, the opportunity to partake in that was special for me.”

Hall then went on to talk about the competition at the Senior Bowl and the improvements he made as a football player.
“The biggest thing was playing against the best every single day, every single rep. Being able to have the opportunity to learn from the best coaches, and having the opportunity to learn from coaches from a lot of different teams. It was really great,” Hall said. “So, I mean, that was my biggest takeaway here, really just starting to learn that NFL ball, learning the terminology, learning the playbook, and stuff like that.”
According to the Draft Network, Hall is a guy that can go in the first or second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He really does a good job of stopping the run and his power is one of his best traits.
