According to our partners Pro Football Focus, newly acquired WR Kelvin Benjamin currently has the highest catch rate on passes over 20 yards at 71.4 %. The sample size is small as he has only been targeted seven times but he hauled in five for 157 yards including two touchdowns.
Deonte Thompson was the leading deep threat WR on the Bills roster with three receptions for 94 yards and only Brandon Tate has a touchdown over 20 yards.
It was pretty obvious the Bills needed some talent at the receiver position. A guy that not only can create splash plays down the field, but one that could also just produce when given the opportunity.
Produce by utilizing his size and length or with his ability to catch in traffic. Like in the short to intermediate area.
Forty-four of his 51 targets this season are in the short to intermediate area and he produced 27 receptions for 318 yards. Having a 6’5″ WR that can work those areas, that can catch contested passes or in high traffic areas and secure the catch will only help QB Tyrod Taylor.
Per PFF, Benjamin is ranked 14th overall in yards per route run as he averages 2.02 yards per route run. On 235 passing routes he has gained 475 yards.
In my opinion this is a good move. What are your thoughts?
