The Buffalo Bills squeaked out a win at New Era Field to up their record to 2-3. It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but the defense made plays to help a struggling offense, and when the offense needed to make a play, they did.
Offensive coordinator Brian Daboll scaled back the offense for QB Josh Allen and put the onus on his offensive line and running backs. The offensive line more than held their own against a solid front seven of the Titans. Daboll got Allen on the move, utilized play-action rollouts and half-field reads.
"I care about letters. I care about the Ws. I don’t care how ugly the stats look. If we’re out on top, that’s all that I care about."

Star running back LeSean McCoy looked like his old self and finally got his campaign to 12,000 yards back on track. McCoy only finished with 85 yards on 24 attempts, but most of his yardage cut right through the middle of the defense. The Pitt alumn gained 59 of his yards inside between the guards. He also pitched in two receptions for 23 yards.
I talked about how Daboll has called a lot of packaged plays (run/pass tag). This week they wanted to stick to the run so it sounds like they took a bunch of those decisions out of Allen's hands. pic.twitter.com/s7VZYl8xDm

His complement, Chris Ivory, also had a strong game on the ground, carrying it 14 times for 43 yards. But what the stat box won’t tell you is the timeliness of his runs. Ivory was the sledgehammer that the front office had envisioned; he consistently converted first downs. He gained 32 of his yards after contact and kept the crowd’s nerves at bay late in the game with some powerful running on the team’s game-winning drive.
But the Bills’ defense was front and center for most of the game. In order to string wins together this season, this will typically need to be the case. They dictated the tempo and didn’t let the Matt LaFleur offense get into a rhythm.
"They turn the ball over, and thats a good recipe for winning. You play hard and you're able to create turnovers defensively." pic.twitter.com/62ionVQuxt

Rookie cornerback Taron Johnson got his first career interception while his teammates forced three fumbles, two of which the Bills recovered. Buffalo played smart, opportunistic and gritty football, exactly the ingredients needed to beat a well-coached Mike Vrabel team.
